Review of A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014) by Shawn C — 02 Sep 2015
The strength of director/writer Ana Lily Amirpour's first full length feature movie lies in the subtleties. Moral gray characters residing in a monochrome universe. The titular Girl, although a lot less silent, reminded me of Hayley's character from David Slade's Hard Candy (2005, recommended viewing!), in a way. Both seem to be dispensing an acceptable to themselves justice of sorts to men that have abused women in some manner. In A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, there's two visible scenes of this. Yet, the part with the black balloon could of been in David Lynch's and Mark Frost's Twin Peaks or something.
Still, this is a special flick and implore people to check it out if they haven't yet already.
