Review of A Ghost Story (2017) by Stuart R — 20 Sep 2017
I didn't initially plan to review 'A Ghost Story' but as the hours pass since watching it, the lingering message reverbs through my head and I feel compelled to do so.
The 2017 film isn't a ghost story. Well it is. But not the kind you're expecting.
There's no Jump scares, vicious demon or horror at all in fact.
It's a story about love, loss and life. With a little bit of time travel sewn in.
And it's a very good one.
The story revolves around a Ghost finding his way back to his still living partner (Yes just like the Patrick Swayzee one).
Like last years 'Arrival', David Lowery's film asks you to really think about what you're witnessing. So, turn your phone off, turn the lights off, get engrossed in the whole 90 minutes.
There's next to no dialogue, no drama and nothing really Happens from a narrative perspective.
Despite that, it somehow remains captivating throughout.
The score is haunting, Camerawork exceptional and Rooney Mara continues to prove why she is one of the leading Actresses working today.
A lot of people will hate this film. And that's ok. I however thought it was great and one of the best films of the year so far.
