Review of A Ghost Story (2017) by Jon C — 01 Oct 2017
I didn't find it quite as miraculous as others said it is.
David Lowery tends to have a lot of lingering shots and the pacing is pretty off.
But he does manage to get across the spirit of someone not ready to move on, what's a soul to do in the meantime being separated from his true love? this person in the sheet sees life pass by, can't come to grips with the changes, and sees the entirety of his home flash before his little black eyes.
There's even a second specter waiting for their loved ones to return for their supposed unfinished business.
The 2nd half of the film is a bit better since we get more of an idea of what happens after we leave the realm of the living; everyone wants to leave a piece of whatever legacy we can affect others with.
It can be a book, a song, a symphony etc.
Who knows how long any of that can truly last until the end of time?
The ghosts of our past, present, and future can take any shape and may never truly leave us.
I expected better but it was a brave move to try with a film this gentle in its take on the afterlife.
