Review of A Ghost Story (2017) by D T — 02 Nov 2017

The aspect ratio, the 5 page script [of dialogue, and I"m guessing, but it's probably rather accurate for those unfamiliar with screenplay formatting/length, the long, extended continuous takes that would be impressive tracking shots if the camera had, you know, moved during them, all may seem like the film is begging to be a familiar tale presented in an Urban Outfitters artistic format. That's fair to say if you've only seen the trailer and think it looks too gimmicky. It's okay to b wrong. We all are at some times in life. But I'm not wrong when I say that A GHOST STORY has done something no other film I've ever seen could accomplish: It haunts me and fills me with unlimited doses of heartache. This film doesn't last more than 90 minutes, and the performances, (even by Affleck who wears a sheet and doesn't talk or move for most of the time), are genuinely powerhouses performances each worthy of an Oscar nod and to be honest, two wins as well.

Perhaps anyone younger than their late 20's will not have any clue why it's so damn good. But they will some day...
