I really do miss the songs that have been cut and Richard Lester's directing is a little too off-kilter to really let this fly but the material is just so good. If I could just rate the movie on the script and what's left of the score it would get five stars.
But Lester's bizarre directing (and lazy diction coaching)really mar the whole thing. Here's hoping Sweeney Todd finally gives Sondheim a good cinematic experience.
