Review of A Fish Called Wanda (1988) by Leighton T — 12 Nov 2008
Uproarious. Kevin Kline is inspired and Michael Palin's section made my sides hurt. The scene where his character is struggling to get the names out about killed me. So fluid, and such a great script.
It's amazing most 80's films feel 80's, but this one really doesn't. The nice thing about this one is that it doesn't try to bowl you over with its comedy (which is exactly the reason you do bowl over).
That's the problem with comedies today - they shortchange you on everything by getting straight to the laughs. They totally forget about characters and story and plot which end up helping provide the laughs in the first place.
