Review of A Film Unfinished (2010) by Sam T — 02 Mar 2011
The director immerses one in the life of the Warsaw Ghetto through the Nazi footage as well as survivors' reactions to it and transcripts of those involved. But Hersonski is after something more: we're at all points reminded that this is a film that was staged, from the sound of a movie projector to the actors' readings and recreations of the transcripts.
Hersonski questions the nature of filmed reality, of historical accuracy, but reinforces at the end the extremely powerful truth of human emotion.
