Review of A Field in England (2013) by Jon P — 16 Dec 2013
Wildly experimental and inexplicably exasperating, Ben Wheatley's ballsy Civil War character study is a semi-surrealist nightmare. At times, the stylistics are jaw-dropping and the film's sound design is by far its biggest redeeming feature but, between the dick close-ups, shoddy still frames, painful pace and sheer outlandishness, there's no denying that Wheatley's wetdream hasn't a clue where it stands or what it wants to be.
Pure dementia.
