Review of A Field in England (2013) by Dustin G — 28 Dec 2013
Bizarre, otherworldly, strangely poetic. Ben Wheatley outdoes himself with this very unique and batty story that does indeed take place solely in a field in England. It concerns a mismatched troupe of travellers attempting to reach a pub so they can drink beer until they fall over.
But it's REALLY about things like occultism, resurrection, the apocalypse and psychosis. It's one of those films that you know as soon as you watch it that you will have a different experience with it with every subsequent viewing.
Also features one of the best, if not THE best hallucination sequence ever put to film. It's all this and more. Or less. Or maybe it is just about trying to reach a pub. I don't know. Perhaps I never will.
