Courtroom dramas are pretty surefire entertainment, and this happens to be one of the better ones. The acting is fine, if a bit mixed: Tom Cruise, an actor I'm not too fond of, is perfect as the slick jackass who suddenly realizes why he needs to be a good lawyer.

Demi Moore is bland, while Jack Nicholson and Kiefer Sutherland go a bit over the top, making their characters a bit too obvious. J.T. Walsh, as a soft-spoken officer who holds a major key to the mystery, is excellent, and Kevin Bacon provides reliable support, as does J.

A. Preston as the hard-nosed judge. Wolfgang Bodison, as one of the accused, makes an excellent screen debut, deflty mixing humanity and Marine Corps conditiong. What really makes the film click is Rob Reiner's pacy direction and Aaron Sorkin's clever script, filled with snappy lines and intruiging twists.

A very solid Hollywood entertainment.
