Review of A Fantastic Woman (2017) by Alexander G — 02 Mar 2018
Sadly, this gold mine of a topic and simple tried-and-true premise is undermined by by-the-book cinematography, monotone acting, disconected scenes with no establishing or transitory shots in them (making for an experiance where the viewer ofthen gets lost), one dimencional charecters, and a lot of meaningless surreal shots that make me think the director was atempting to be artistic without the scene having a meaning for it within the context of the movie.
Even more disapointing is the fact that in a few key scenes, some refreshing elements of the movie do seep through, demonstrating the lost potential this film has. For instance, the final scene could have been a powerful ending had the movie leading up to it been better.
Long story short, there are a few fragmented elements that can be interesting, but the movie itself is at film student levels.
