Review of A Fantastic Woman (2017) by Richard D — 13 Mar 2018
Daniela Vega stars as Marina, a transgender singer who has a day job as a waitress. She lives with her boyfriend, a man in his late 50's, who suddenly drops dead one night of an aneurysm. The film follows her attempts to come to grips with this tragedy while dealing with people that won't let her do so.
I thought this was a powerful film that fiercely asserts the basic dignity and humanity of it's protagonist under conditions that fight to deny both. Vega does an amazing job, conveying so very very much just with her face.
