Review of A Family Undertaking (2003) by Michelle E — 04 Aug 2011
Educational. Made me really re-think our culture's whole idea of death. I think there is something in a home funeral. When I lived in Cape Verde, the dead stayed in their homes for so many days while the loved ones visited and said good-bye. I don't recall ever seeing someone with a deep depression after losing a loved one like we have here in this country. For some reason the US culture wants us to not deal with our emotions and act like our loved ones are somehow still around and bring buried....instead of dealing with or emotions and helping us to cine to terms with the fact that the body is just a shell. Our loved one is not there.
And I think I've decided I definitely don't want to be embalmed. What for??
