Review of A Dog's Purpose (2017) by Meredith D — 26 Feb 2017
I recently saw this film and was sorely disappointed. With an opening scene featuring painful narration that, unfortunately, continues throughout the rest of this "film", and an immediate first death, I should have seen it coming.
The story begins with the second reincarnation that becomes our main dog, and we meet a young boy in desperate need of a friend. As we watch the young boy mature into a young man, a classmate of his poses an excellent question.
"Why do you bring that dog with you everywhere?" The boy does indeed bring the dog everywhere even so far as to stick him in the backseat when he's necking with his syrupy sweet girlfriend, played by the lovely Britt Robertson.
As we continue on this dog's journey to other emotionally manipulative storylines, I was probably most disappointed with the fact that when the credits finally rolled (TWO HOURS LATER), I still had not discovered what a dog's purpose is.
Maybe in my next life I will.
