Review of A Dog's Purpose (2017) by Tyler K — 25 Apr 2017
A Dog's Purpose is a surprisingly enjoyable film. It is far from perfect, but I enjoyed it. Josh Gad is good as the voice of the dogs. He is very charming. It is hard not to like him. The rest of the actors are also good.
None of them give bad performances. The storylines me kept me interested the entire time. Each story with the dog was good. But some were better than others. The film is very blatantly sentimental. Sometimes it is too much.
The script also isn't perfect. Some of the dialogue is just terrible, especially towards the beginning. But once you get into it, there is enjoyment to be found. I was interested in the characters and their relationships with their respective dog.
Is it predictable? Yes. But is it entertaining? Yes. Overall, I expected to absolutely hate this movie. But surprisingly I found it compelling. It isn't amazing, but kids and adults should enjoy the film.
