Review of A Dog Year (2009) by Jill Y — 15 Aug 2010
A reclusive writer adopts a troubled border collie. It's a rocky relationship at first but over time man and dog come to love and trust each other. It's a very appealing idea for a movie but it doesn't play out successfully.
The script is poorly plotted and the direction is weak. With the exception of Lois Smith playing the part of a dog trainer who works with sheep and dogs, everyone else in the cast seems adrift. With a script fleshed out and polished by a professional, and better direction, it could have been a delightful movie.
