Review of A Day Without a Mexican (2004) by Bryan G — 11 Nov 2004
The best kind of movies nowadays are the ones with the most imagination. Films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind have made me have faith in modern film again. A Day Without a Mexican furthers that belief that films can be better than the usual crap..
The whole premise of this movie is really simple. One morning all the Mexicans (And people who are mistaken for Mexicans) in California are missing. Some people see this as the rapture, some see it as a reason to celebrate. Some people miss the family and friends that aren?t there anymore. So many great emotions are conveyed in this movie, and are all believable..
Right away you can pick up on the meaning of the film. I know there are a lot of people who don?t like Mexicans immigrating into America... or anyone immigrating. They are seen as monsters who are trying to get a free ride in. But it isn?t always like that. These people work their ass off to give their families a better life than what their home can offer. And are more American than most natural born citizens..
This is a wonderful film that I think everyone should see, no matter what your views on immigration. Maybe this movie might change your mind, or maybe it will reassure you in your beliefs. Anyone who likes original movies, this one will work for you..
