Review of A Dark Truth (2012) by Rico F — 10 Dec 2012
I expected a bit more from this film but in the end I think "just slightly above average" is an accurate rating.
It starts off great and actually I thought the ending was quite good as well. Unfortunately it muddles through the middle part with some really bad action scenes, particular the whole scene where they are running through the jungle and fighting the army. Take the situation where they go back to the village to rescue all the hostages, for example. Anybody who's played any FPS game knows you have to take out those soldiers with quick burst fire headshots, tactical and precise. You can't spray n' sway your m4 like you're Rambo and perfectly hit all the targets while avoiding a bunch of civilians.
The movie is also a bit of a letdown performance wise. I can't say the cast did a bad job, but I can't say they did a memorable job either, and that's a shame. Kim Coates played it too safe in my opinion. I love that guy since he's reppin' Saskatchewan and I want to see him become a big star but he's gonna have to try harder. Forrest Whitaker pretty much phoned it in as well tho so what can you do?
Worth the watch but don't expect to have your mind blown.
