Review of A Dark Song (2016) by Anonymous User — 29 Apr 2017
Normally I like stories with British actors that take place in the English countryside. I like the horror-thriller-mystery genre. Give me a Hitchcock , del Torro or King type of movie & I'm in my glories .
.. but this movie, not interesting at all. Darkness, boredom & profanity. That's basicallly the experience I drew from time spent watching it. Some top critics seem to love it. WHY?? What is it with horror-thriller-mystery films nowadays? So many of them are dark (I mean visually dark.
Dimly lit sets throughout the entire film don't create a creepy effect, they just make it hard to see stuff). Also why the mumbling, choppy incongruous half sentences & nonsensical dialogue? I understood the vulgarity, though, that was crystal clear.
The biggest let down, however, is lack of storyline. There is no story here, nothing to follow. I was disappointed. I understand this is the director's first work. Hopefully future works of his will be worth watching.
