Review of A Dangerous Method (2011) by Aldo G — 13 Apr 2012
Those with an interest in psychoanalysis might fight this film as spellbinding as I did. The story covers the historic interactions between the two titans of the shrink world, Dr. Carl Jung and Dr. Sigmund Freud.
Bringing them together is Sabina Spielrein, Jung's patient and, later, mistress who suffers a severe mental disorder born out of her father's physical abuse. Sabina would go on to become a notable psychoanalyst herself.
There's a lot of material here and famed director David Cronenberg handles it in a straightforward, understated manner. Some might find the film too talky and it is, but it is loaded with ideas. The cast is outstanding especially Michael Fassbender who is proving to be one of today's finest actors.
