Review of A Dangerous Method (2011) by Luke M — 26 May 2013
Reading other reviews of this movie people tend to be saying "it doesn't feel like a cronenberg movie." I have no idea what that means considering it's a movie about psychoanalyzing sex.
seems pretty cronenberg-like to me. so there are no exploding heads or dismemberments, but what do you expect? it was a play... about Freud, Jung, and Speirlein. i'm not sure there was a lot of room for fly people and stomach maws.
(long live the new flesh) so I suppose in that regard is was rather tame, and I wouldn't suggest the film to anyone uninterested in Freud or Jung. but if you enjoy movies waxing philosophical over tea and cigars, with the occassional spanking then you should give it a shot.
(or if your IQ is above the people seeing fast and furious 30 this weekend) the direction was flawless, cronenberg always is. I will say knightley was excellent though sometimes I found her accent a little forced, (and I can see many people disagreeing with me on that one) meanwhile cassel, fassbender and mortensen were outstanding.
great movie, overall.
