Review of A Dangerous Man (2009) by Joan-Of A — 07 Aug 2010
When Steven Seagal is not busy stopping confused criminals on â??Lawmanâ??, he's kicking the crap out of minorities in direct-to-DVD movies like A Dangerous Man. Seagal plays Shane Daniels, a man who has been imprisoned for 6 years for a crime he didnâ??t commit.
New evidence arises, he gets out with a clean slate and promptly gets involved in a ransom ordeal involving Asian gangsters and the Russians. Believe it or not, I have actually gone the twenty-three years of my life without seeing a Steven Seagal movie, so I really didnâ??t know what to expect, and I gotta say, the man has some of the hammiest delivery techniques I have ever seen in my life.
Sure, heâ??s been around the block enough times to know how to give a decent tough guy line, but whenever he is given something important to say, it becomes oh so apparent that he needs acting classes.
This really is a turkey of a movie that I liken to 12 Rounds (although it is never as raucous of a good time): it is by no stretch of the imagination a good movie, but it is such a cheesy, cliche-riddled schlock-fest, it is kind of hilarious.
There were about three or four lines in the movie where I literally had to hit pause because I was laughing so hard at some hugely inappropriate line of dialogue. It does get out of control with poor-editing as it reaches its action climax, but still, this is a couple of cold ones type of movie that can be enjoyable in the right setting and the right company.
