Review of A Cure for Wellness (2017) by Joseph D — 18 Feb 2017
The doctor is in.....sane.
A CURE FOR WELLNESS.
It is a true Horror Movie, the mystery leading the plot permeated every corner of the film's being. The clues scattered throughout are a bit obvious, but only if you pay attention, & the payoff was both satisfying, & REALLY messed up!
The cast all deserve awards: the hero, the damsel, the villain, the side characters, even the extras in the back; they all gave real A-game performances. It's like they were channeling the ancient masters of the Greek tragedy. They were amazing!
The visuals were pure art. The landscapes were a feast for the eyes, the main hospital setting was like a labyrinth meant to suck away your sanity, & the various bits of symbolism were not lost on me.
The music was pitch perfect in it's punctuation of events in the story, with an underlying theme of innocence surrounded by corruption.
4 stars out of 5, it's a bit of a long sit-through (almost 2.5 hours), & you might feel like you need to keep notes at times, but if you're into visceral Hitchcock-style horror that plumbs the depths of the human animal, I recommend a healthy dose of A Cure for Wellness.
