I see some bad reviews, and of course a movie is a story... and any critic at home can say what they want. I felt it borrowed some elements of shutter island and others in specific scenes and conceptually but as a writer, we all get "inspired" by certain works.

Nevertheless I'm an artist and felt to that end it was a work of art. It's visual eye candy and that counts for a lot to me. I found the last star-trek movie to be too dark-not in there, I mean it was literally too dark to see well-the 3D option made it even more difficult, but this one pulled it off and yes, it could've used some editing but it was certainty good enough and visually outstanding.

I know people who've worked in films and what's written and what is presented are very different and that will be determined by the money people and others who want to make it commercially successful but again, I'd call this a work of art.

If you enjoy that sort of thing as much as some of us do, don't be put off by the lackluster ratings. This is art. And a good enough story to take you away for 2 hours of your life. There are some thought provoking messages too.

At first I felt like it was like Bram Stokers Dracula, where he's being sent to a far off land on behalf of the company in a mission he may not return from but that's fine too. This was a surreal experience.

Finally, I was also reminded of the film the lobster which a lot of people found too far out. But I liked it. It's a mind f*ck journey that you either see as art or you don't. Expect many strange things.

Two people can see the same movie and walk out with 2 very different ideas of what it's all about. It depends on what they can see and digest. Where they're able to suspend disbelief and go on the journey.

A movie like this is often running on a second track. And that's subject to interpretation. I can't say what's right for you but for me, it was enjoyable and worth seeing in theaters..
