Review of A Cock and Bull Story (2005) by Susan C — 14 Jun 2008
This was okay. It is sometimes funny, but in an improv kind of way. British humor sometimes annoys me. The characters are always so narcissistic and pretentious. They have this dry, sarcastic humor and they treat everyone around them as if they were less than human.
But maybe that's just Steve Coogan. Coogan plays himself in portions of this, as it is about making an "unfilmable" film, so we get some stuff in character, but most of it is behind the scenes "mockumentary" stuff that goes into Coogan's "real life.
" I'm wondering if what he is like in reality, though, as his off screen performance is much like other roles I've seen him in. Perhaps it's one of those situations when someone makes fun of themselves for being an ass, simply so they can justify that behavior further.
..I guess that's too much analysis of Coogan. Another way to put it is: I do not like Steve Coogan, so I did not really care for this film. Coogan fans love it, I'm sure.
