Review of A Clockwork Orange (1971) by Margarita S — 20 May 2015
I loved the artistic look and feel. It's iconic by way of scene construction, shot selection and mood. There's a lot going on in this film and where Kubrick loses me is in the overall thematic umbrella.
He wants to make commentary and there's a lot of individually smart and interesting scenes, but they don't really fit well together as a cohesive whole. Think this works best as an artistic piece rather than as an insightful look at youth violence and the failures of various institutions.
