Review of A Clockwork Orange (1971) by John A — 29 Jan 2015
Based on the disturbing novel by Anthony Burgess, A Clockwork Orange follows neo-punk Alex, on his misadventures into ultra-violence in a near totalarian future. Alex's escapades get him arrested, & then the viewer is subject to his inhumane rehabilitation.
Kubrick's screenplay closely follows the book with a few minor changes & It's final scene is based on the US edition of the book which originally was missing the final chapter. This is an atmospheric piece which features excellent direction and performamces from it's cast, especially from a young and inexperienced Malcolm McDowall who gives what is probably the best performance of his career.
