Review of A Civil Action (1998) by Brian T — 03 Aug 2007
Although this film lacks the emotional drama and courtroom drama of law films like "A Few Good Men" it is a very good film. The fact that it is more level and controlled in its emotion and scope make it, ultimately, more believable than courtroom dramas (I guess that's too be expected when it's based on a true story).
Travolta plays his part very well. The transition from cynically snobbish to blindly passionate is very well portrayed. But the gold star of the film is definitely Robert Duvall. His wit, charm and "tempered old sage" attitude is terrific.
Overall this an "I really liked" movie, just falling short of the "I loved it" category. In fact, you could throw another "really" in front of that "like".
Yeah, let's do that.
