Review of A Cinderella Story (2004) by Dave A — 09 Feb 2015
Bombastic and unsophisticated. This version of the classic Cinderella is as subtle as a brick. How does Chad Michael Murray's Austin not recognize Hilary Duff's Samantha at the Halloween Costume Dance? How does Julie Gonzalo's Shelby not recognize Dan Byrd's Carter? Because glasses and a spit curl keep people from telling Clark Kent and Superman apart.
Instead of finding an imaginative and funny way to put Sam down, Jennifer Coolidge's Fiona just comes right out and tells her she's not pretty and not bright. Fiona and her daughters come off as Dumb And Dumber rather than wicked.
Why is stupid supposed to be funny?
