Review of A Christmas Story (1983) by Matthew F — 05 Dec 2010
Probably my favorite comedy (funny wise, I think Dr.Strangelove was overall a better movie) This movie is a collection of skits leading up to christmas, almost all of them comedy classics. There was one joke that hurted me (I start feeling physical pain if a joke either bothers me or is extreamy bad) when Ralphie was imagining his teacher giving him an overdramaticly good grade, but I was still laughing my head off, possibly more than the most of the film.
This is actually a movie that the jokes seem stupider if you are less mature because there is usually meanings behind the jokes. Like Ralphs fantasies, they may seem to be overdramatic but that is how a kid sees what they think life is going to be like.
Also his "Soap Poisoning" fantasy is like how every kid feels after they have been punished, they want something bad will happen to them so that their parents will feel guilty about punishing them.
The charactors are perfect and it is also a great nostalgia type movie, showing very well into the kids mind. The quality of the video wasn't the best, but you quickly get used to it. It is a great holiday, desite what people say about it not showing the spirit of chistmas well enough, it instead shows that Chrismas has became more materialistic and self centered to people then it used to be.
People do charity work because it makes them feel better about them selves so it is a little selfish, but in the way that shows that you are a good person is how it is still a little self centered if people say that it is not self centered.
In fact what do people do that is not for themselves. Even alot of the good thing you do is just to make yourself better about yourself. In that sence it is a great christmas movie.
