Review of A Christmas Carol (1984) by Tom O — 08 Dec 2012
This is, with all due respect to Alistair Sim, the finest version of "A Christmas Carol" ever filmed. It's a magnificent film, with extraordinary performances all around, starting with George C.
Scott. He is a mesmerizing Ebeneezer Scrooge. Roger Rees (as his nephew), David Warner (Bob Cratchit), Edward Woodward (Christmas Present) and Susannah York (Mrs. Cratchit) are to be particularly singled out, but there isn't a less than stellar performance by anyone in the cast.
The music is excellent, as well. Can't wait to watch it again this coming holiday season. If you see no other version, see this one.
