Review of A Christmas Carol (1938) by Luke B — 04 Dec 2009
This is my all time favorite Christmas film. It looks dated in the most genuine of ways, however, it feels refreshing and beautiful. This is simply because it reminds us of a better time in not only cinema, but a better time to see the beauty in all things.
The atmospheric creepiness is top notch and I love Gene Lockhart as Cratchit. He seems to bring a joy to the film that other sequences squander from the shear dread of their situations and reminds us that the film is about much more than Christmas.
Its about humanity.
