He said only if his kids allowed others to. At the time when he asked his children didn't want anyone else writing his comic strips and still do I guess since there no new comic strip and they wouldn't be the same.
But you can take material from the comic strip to make a movie from his point of view. Not only that Bill Melendez was the one who help him put together his tv shows and other movies.
