Review of A Cat in Paris (2010) by Phillipé S — 07 Aug 2012
Timelessly charming and utterly French, Une Vie de Chat is a narrative and stylistic exercise in simplicity done right. The appeal will transcend age barriers for sure as the comedy takes cues both adult and juvenile but panders completely to neither assuming the younger audience are sharp enough to catch on and the adult audience is youthful enough to revel in its somewhat aged (not hackneyed) physical antics.
Its a delightful combination of mystery, caper, and comedy. The film uses Dino, the cat, as a means of tying the two seemingly unconnected lives of a young if at times neglected girl Zoe and a conscientious and clever cat-burglar named Nico.
Intuitive and unique artistic choices and wonderful French voice acting round out this offering and make it a little gem worth scoring an appointment with. Check it out.
