Review of A Bug's Life (1998) by Benjamin A — 06 Feb 2012
Outside of being Pixar's second hit, "A Bug's Life" is one of those movies that has a special place in my heart from childhood for two reasons.
The first reason is simply being fascinated seeing the world from the point of view of a bug. I'm well aware of "Antz" and while that is a great movie also, I prefer this movie over that one. It's more colorful, I like the characters more then in "Antz", and the music is more catchy. The movie also has a great sense of humor from all of the circus bugs and Flik, which brings me to the second reason why this movie is special to me.
The second reason is very personal for me and the most important reason why I love this movie. When I was a kid, I pretty much was Flik. I was considered the odd ball from everyone in school and wasn't really friends with many people, only a select few people. I also was made fun of my a lot of people besides the school bully. However I didn't realize that I was like Flik, until I re-watched the movie long after I made tons of friends and when people stopped picking on my. The only thing that was missing were crazy inventions and failed attempts to gain everyones respect. Normally I would hate movies where the main character is exactly like me, but since everything works out for Flik in the end (similar to me), it makes me love the movie more then I did when I was a kid.
It's funny, it's beautifully animated and the only thing that would rock my world is if they made a sequel (but only if Pixar feels a need to tell another story).
