Review of A Bronx Tale (1993) by Lester C — 24 Sep 2012
Moving, educational, and romantic are the three words that would best describe the 1993 classic, A Bronx Tale. In at number 40 in the year's top 100 films, I would have to disagree with those ratings and place this film in the top 20.
Written as a play by Chazz Palminteri, the big screen version was then directed by one of cinema's most talented actors, Mr. Robert Deniro. Apart from directing it, Deniro also stars in the film as the protagonist's father.
Taking us back to the 1950's, this 'tale' of what seems to be merely about the incorporation of a young boy and a mafia boss, then shifts into a controversial interracial relationship that provides the story with a balance between love, friendship and family; something which we all seek in our lives.
With a proper lesson of how societies were in the time period the story was based on, and with the superb acting, music, plot structure and genuine cinematography, I would give this jewel of a film a 9 out of 10 rating, and encourage anyone over the age of 13 to check out.
