Review of A Bronx Tale (1993) by Marcus R — 13 Jan 2013
Set in Bronx in the 60s, a father gets worried when his son befriends a local group of gangsters. Some may look at this film as an alternative look on the first part of Goodfellas, both stylistically and from a storytelling point of view.
Nevertheless, this film based on the play by Chazz Palminteri is a compelling coming of age drama with elements of tales of star crossed lovers that would remind one of the famous musical West Side Story, which is very sensitive and does not allow itself the luxury of doing without moments of violence and sheer realism.
The impact of the film is also strengthened by the high quality of the performances delivered by the top notch cast.
