Review of A Bronx Tale (1993) by Tyler M — 05 Jun 2010
On the streets of Brooklyn, New York, Calogero deeply emerges himself in a diverse world amongst racism, and most importantly his family. This well adapted version of Chaz Palminteri's one-man play preformed at the start of the new millennium is far out done and is renounced a profound and vivid film version that comes to life on screen. As seen through the eyes of Calogero, a 9 year old boy surviving the remote and distant times of 1960's Brooklyn, destines to strive for his morals and out beat the times of racism and corruption. At first it all seems so constructed, shooting dice, the profuse swearing and especially the placate music ringing from each street corner, however, before long, the film acquires a unique mood and feeling setting is apart from all other.
Sonny, a main staple to the town who is often seen at the local bar or smoking on the street corner, is witnessed carrying out a shooting. When Calogero doesn't confess the killer the tables turn and Sonny takes on the portraying role of Calogero's dad. Lorenzo (Robert De Niro), Calogero's father, has no time for a person with wasted talent or undelivered morals like Sonny, and steers Calogero in the opposite direction and of course, from this, derives undisputed tensions.
As time progresses and the drama intensifies, 8 years later, Calogero stands up to society and takes on to fancy a black women in a neighboring town. When major problems arise due of this significant event, climax is nothing but near when Calogero is faced with unsettling and unforgettable well learned lessons.
The way the 122 minute movie is played out and shot is a thrill within itself to recreate a period back in time where you feel as though you're encased with the ambiance of Brooklyn and the Italian street mobs."A Bronx Tale" deserves a 5 of 5 star film rating and is highly recommended to heighten your senses and actualize the morals of life. To be blown away and astonished as to how passionate and moving a film can be, "A Bronx Tale" will leave you in a state of disbelief.
