Review of A Bridge Too Far (1977) by Stephan S — 04 Jul 2008
This movie is about the Allied push into Holland in September, 1944. Director Richard Attenborough tried so hard for accuracy on this project that the major actors even looked like the people they portrayed! How do I know this? The book by Cornelius Ryan was re released with the movie.
It contained a pictures section, with comparison pictures of the actors in costume beside period pictures of their characters. There were discrepancies, but then, there always are. When this movie was originally released, I saw it in the theater with a lady who was growing up in Arnhem when the battle took place (she was 12 at the time of the battle).
She said the movie was accurate. Overall, for the history buff, this movie is very worth seeing.
