Review of A Bridge Too Far (1977) by Tim F — 30 Jul 2009
The biggest cocktail, but no alcohol... it just didnt work. I think Attenborough spend far too much time trying to get the biggests cast you could imagine (and he succeeded) but spent less time making it a memorable film, which it isnt.
The only characters who seemed to shine were the unknown ones. Hackman with a laughable accent, was he Irish or Polish?, Redford with a cameo role really, that seemed to be squeezed in with no character.
.. did it matter who he was, well the list of pointless roles played by big names was more watchable than gripping or exciting. It is mostly interesting but realistically, you end up just watching the starts and guessing their names.
