Great movie BUT! There are a number of historical inaccuracies. The most glaring for me was casting Hardy Kreuger as General Ludwig because the book clearly describes the actions of Kreuger's character to be that of General Harmel.
Another flaw is that of the moment where James Caan hands his gun over to the Surgeon after holding a gun to his head. In the book he is handed over to his commanding officer for court martial whereas in the movie the surgeon hands him his gun back after a dressing down.
