Review of A Bridge Too Far (1977) by Alan Andrew T — 02 Sep 2011
Excellent picture portrayal of Operation Market Garden, one of the biggest failures during the war although the mission was mostly completed at the cost of many lives. A huge cast of stars including Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Anthony Hopkins, Edward Fox, Dirk Bogarde, James Caan, Eilliott Gould, Gene Hackman and Hardy Kruger who all gives wonderful performances.
The special effects are amazing with some spectacular battles scenes ever seen in any war film. The music is uplifting and at the same time, sad during terrible moments. There is also plenty of humour although at the expense of the British over the Americans I notice! The scale of this movie is huge, it's a long film but tells the story well.
Underrated film Directed by Richard Attenborough.
