Review of A Bigger Splash (2015) by Timothy A — 29 Mar 2016
Somewhat inconsequential sexual chamber drama. Fiennes appears to have been waiting his whole career to completely let loose like this, and even Dakota Johnson manages to surprise, with a small reveal late in the piece that shows her occasional apparent missteps were actually going somewhere.
The shooting manages to make the locations look sumptuous while remaining grounded in reality, but it's not enough to overcome the feeling that the cast are having far more fun than the audience. With the talent involved you might not begrudge them, but you'd be just as happy to leave them to it.
