Review of A Bigger Splash (2015) by Paterson D — 12 Jun 2016
A hot mess. There are some great shots and individual scenes between characters, but it's sloppy thematically. Some characters are well developed while others are overlooked. The movie doesn't know if it wants to be a drama, a comedy, a mystery or a romance.
All of the building blocks are there, but it lacks cohesion. Some gems like a killer line or powerful premise are lost in the filler moments, of which there are many. A shame since Swinton and Fiennes' performances are so strong and they have the most believable chemistry.
