Review of A Better Tomorrow (2010) by Peter Y — 18 Apr 2006

I think this film is great but much of it will be lost on non cantonese speaking people. You can say that this is the birth of the chinese gangster film and where much of the now popular loyalty/honour thing comes from.

If you ignore the gangster bits, this is a film about friends and relationships. Watch the sequel for the whole picture. Would've been 5 stars but this too suffers from a certain 80s hong kong naivety and cliche (before they were cliches?).
