Review of A Better Tomorrow (2010) by Gary B — 27 Mar 2008
HK gangster movies were nothing new. Woo said that he needed Yun-Fat Chow's character to raise hell but without heavy duty weapons for the restaurant scene. How could one man kill his way through so many? reloading - too slow. multiple guns - okay but its still just one shot at a time. how about a new gunfighting style - 2 guns being used acrobatically.
The bullet ballet was born.
Add the classic vengeance and honour themes and watch.
The story dictated it all ends in tears, so behold - heroic bloodshed.
Yes it shows its age now - but so does Scarface. this introduced the world to a spectacle that is now re-produced in games millions of times everyday - we hail the master craftsman who started it all.
