Review of A Better Life (2011) by Alex C — 14 Aug 2011
A solid yet kinda predictable drama about Carlos, a single Mexican man living illegally in Los Angeles while working hard to take care of his teenage son. It's a story about just how far a parent will go to guarantee their child's future.
Carlos thinks he's found a way to better opportunities when he's able to buy a truck from his old boss with money given to him from his sister. However, when the truck is stolen, Carlos and his son have no choice but to set out to find it.
I think the film is at it's best when Carlos and his son are actually looking for the truck, as it works well as a mystery in that sense. However, that barely makes up half of the film. The film goes into an ending, although well-acted, is kinda predictable and left me wishing it would have gone further.
Still, a good movie, just not a great one.
