Review of A Better Life (2011) by Ray H — 29 Jul 2011
A nice little film. We know where this movie is probably going. We have a hard-working, illegal gardener trying to make "a better life" 4 his teenage son. The son is tempted by the gang life in his neighborhood.
The story is strong and straight-forward. The acting by our hero, Carlos Galindo (Demian Bichir), is excellent. His son Luis (Jose Julian), is better in some scenes than others. He is pretty good in the second half.
The story gives us a short tour of the dark under-belly of Los Angeles. The movie was very well done over-all. There is very little violence or sex. But, there is dramatic tension a-plenty. The story moves rite along. It held my interest thru-out.
There is a bit to contemplate later on; if U choose 2.
It was a good trip to the flics. I recommend this one.
