Review of A Better Life (2011) by Daniel A — 18 Mar 2012
Predictable and too familiar, which is a shame because A Better Life has a story worth telling, it's just a shame it's been told so many times before. There are other reasons to watch however, namely Damien Bichir's Oscar-nominated performance, which provides the film with a protagonist we can really get behind and respect in spite of his weaknesses.
Equally newcomer Jose Julian as Bichir's son makes a decent showing. In spite of this A Better Life is ultimately too worthy for its own good.
