Review of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019) by Moviemitch96 — 23 Nov 2019
Like millions of others, I loved growing up watching 'Mr. Roger's Neighborhood' as a kid. So I was excited to both revisit some of my childhood and also watch what I knew would probably be a touching little film.
And sure enough, I was right! Emotionally, it struck all the right chords with me and made me sympathize for just about every character, not unlike how Mr. Rogers felt towards everybody. Speaking of which, this film perfectly showcased how empathetic and just how big of a heart Mr.
Rogers had for everybody. And of course, who better to play one of the nicest guys in the world than one of the nicest guys in Hollywood, Tom Hanks himself! He gives an always reliable and tender performance in this, alongside Matthew Rhys, who plays the hardened and bitter journalist assigned to interview him.
Aside from a couple of rushed and slightly forced plot elements towards the end, this is definitely one of the best "feel good" films of the year, and even manages not to become too sentimental or sappy.
